What Is Brachioplasty / Arm Lift?
Commonly referred to as an arm lift, Brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that removes loose skin from the upper arm. Procedures of this type are often utilized to help reshape the upper portion of the arm after the individual has undergone a significant weight loss, or the skin has lost its elasticity.
An Arm Lift can be performed alongside arm Liposuction if a patient has concerns over both excess fat deposits in the arm as well as excess skin. Brachioplasty helps to restore a reasonable range of proportion and skin tone and has a 95% worth-it rating on RealSelf.
Who Is A Good Candidate For Brachioplasty/ Arm Lift?
If you are considering brachioplasty / arm lift, you will make a good candidate if you:
- Have realistic expectations about what the brachioplasty / arm tuck can do for you
- Are in good health, emotionally stable, and do not have any pre-existing medical conditions
- You are not obese and must have maintained a stable weight for several months
- Are 18-years-old, or older, and fully understand the brachioplasty / arm tuck procedure
Preparing For An Arm Lift
Before the Consultation
It is recommended that you research the arm lift procedure and form a list of any questions or concerns you wish to discuss during your consultation. You should also find pictures of your ideal result and spend time thinking about the goals of your surgery so you can clearly discuss these with Dr. Liland.
Consultation
During the consultation, Dr. Liland will assess your physical and emotional health, discuss your expectations about Brachioplasty / arm tuck, and the likely outcomes of the procedure. You will also be able to ask questions, and discuss the available options and risks involved with the brachioplasty / arm tuckprocedure. In our Dallas office, Dr. David Liland will show you several pre and post-op photos of the brachioplasty / arm tuck.
Before the Procedure
Do not take any medication that contains aspirin, vitamin E, weight loss medication, or Chinese herbs for two weeks prior the surgery. A complete drug list will be provided on your pre-op appointment date. It is also important our Dallas Butt Implant patients stop smoking six weeks before the procedure.
How Is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?
Anesthesia
General anesthesia or sedation is used to perform the procedure. For more information on Sedation choices, you can view our Sedation Options page.
Incision
The repair involves an incision along the inner arm to the elbow so that any excess skin can be removed. The procedure tends to take a couple of hours to be performed.
Closing the Incisions
The incisions are closed with stitches. Sometimes a short scar in the armpit is possible.
Arm Lift Gallery
Removes excess skin on the upper arm to achieve tighter and more contoured arms.
A 55-64-year-old woman was treated with an Arm Lift procedure to tighten both upper arms.

Recovery From Arm Lift Surgery
You should arrange for an adult to drive you to and from your surgery. You cannot take a taxi home. You must arrange for an adult to stay with you for the first couple of days after your procedure. For the first few days, we recommend that our Dallas Arm Lift patients keep their head elevated on several pillows to minimize swelling, apply a cold compress to decrease bruising and swelling for the first two days (try frozen peas), and avoid heavy lifting, straining, or bending over, for two weeks. If liposuction is performed alongside the arm lift then there is likely to be significant swelling and a compression garment will need to be worn for the first few weeks.
You may resume all normal activities from around four to six weeks after the Brachioplasty procedure. Specific recommendations will be discussed when you arrive for your consultation with Dr. Liland.
