Arm Lift Dallas: What is It, And What Does It Treat

Brachioplasty, often referred to as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure designed to address concerns about loose skin in the upper arms, commonly known as “arm flab.” This procedure can be particularly beneficial for individuals who have experienced significant weight loss or a loss of skin elasticity. By removing excess skin and recontouring the upper arms, Arm Lift Dallas can help people throughout DFW achieve a more toned and sculpted appearance.

If you have both stubborn fat deposits and loose skin in your upper arms, you can actually combine an arm lift with arm liposuction! This double-duty approach can help you achieve a more sculpted, toned look.

According to over 300 recent RealSelf reviews, 91% of people say an arm lift is worth it.

Am I a Good Candidate for Arm Lift Dallas?

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, ideal arm lift candidates are adults with a significant amount of skin laxity in their upper arms. You  will also make a good candidate if you:

  • Have realistic expectations of your results
  • Are in good health, emotionally stable, and do not have any pre-existing medical conditions
  • Have a BMI within a healthy range and have maintained a stable weight for several months
  • Are 18 yearsor older, and fully understand the brachioplasty  procedure
  • You are a non-smoker

Preparing For An Arm Lift

Before the Consultation

Do your research. Arm lifts are a big decision, so it’s important to get all the information you need. Spend some time reading up on the procedure and jot down any questions you have for Dr. Liland.

Think about your dream arm situation. Find some pictures that show what you’re hoping to achieve and bring them along to your consultation. This will help Dr. Liland understand your goals.

Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Liland will do a quick checkup of your physical and emotional health and chat with you about what you’re hoping to get out of the arm lift. Be sure to ask all your questions – there’s no such thing as a silly question with us. When you visit our Dallas office, Dr. Liland will also show you some before-and-after photos of past patients so you can get a better idea of what to expect.

Before the Procedure

There will be some pre-surgery prep to take care of for a safe Arm Lift Dallas surgery.  Dr. Liland will give you a complete list of medications you’ll need to avoid for a couple of weeks beforehand (things like aspirin, weight loss medications, and herbal supplements).  And, if you’re a smoker, quitting for six weeks before the procedure is a must.

How Does Arm Lift Surgery Work?

Anesthesia

To keep you safe and comfortable, we use general anesthesia during Arm Lifts at our Dallas surgery center. For more information on Sedation choices, you can view our Sedation Options page.

Incision

An arm lift typically involves an incision along the inner arm to the elbow to remove any excess skin causing your “flabby arms.” The procedure itself takes about two hours.

Closing the Incisions

Once all of the extra skin is removed, Dr. Liland closes incisions with stitches. Incisions are made carefully and discreetly to prevent any noticeable scars, but sometimes a short scar in the armpit is possible.

Pain Management

You may be wondering, is an arm lift painful? You may feel slightly uncomfortable for the first few days after arm flab surgery. Expect some swelling, tightness, and tenderness in your arms – think of it like a 4 out of 10 on the pain scale.  The good news is this discomfort usually improves after about 3-4 days.

Removes excess skin on the upper arm to achieve tighter and more contoured arms.

Arm Lift Recovery: What to Expect

You should plan to have someone drive you to and from your surgery. Taxis, Ubers and Lyfts are a no-no after surgery. Arrange to have someone there to stay with you and take care of you for the first couple of days after your procedure.

For a smooth recovery and best results, we recommend that our Dallas Arm Lift patients:

  • Keep your head elevated with several pillows to minimize swelling for the first few days
  • Apply a cold compress to decrease bruising and swelling for the first two days (try frozen peas)
  • Limit your range of motion for 4-6 weeks
  • Avoid heavy lifting for about six weeks
  • If combined with arm liposuction, wear a compression garment for the first few weeks to minimize swelling

You may resume all normal activities from around 4-6 weeks after your  Brachioplasty procedure.

Arm lift scars tend to take a bit longer to fade and flatten out compared to scars on other parts of your body. It’s normal for scars to take 6-12 months to fully mature, but for arms, it can take an extra 3-6 months on top of that.

Specific recommendations will be discussed when you arrive for your Arm Lift Dallas consultation with Dr. Liland.

How Long Does an Arm Lift Last?

Dallas arm lift patients can expect their results to stick around for a good 10 years or even longer, especially if you maintain a stable weight. As we all know, our skin loses elasticity and firmness as we age. Ask your doctor how aging might affect your arms down the line. There are even some non-surgical skin tightening treatments you can discuss to help keep your new look in top notch shape.
