What Exactly Is Dysport?

Dysport and BOTOX are prescription neuromodulator injections used to temporarily relax selected facial muscles. Dysport is FDA-approved for temporary improvement in moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults under 65. BOTOX Cosmetic has its own approved cosmetic indications. Other areas may be considered off-label and should be discussed during consultation.

Since the effects of Dysport are only temporary, as they tend to last for around three or four months, repeated treatments are required for patients to have continued results from the procedure.

With just one injection into each of the five points between and over the eyebrows, Dysport blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles, which reduces muscle activity and temporarily prevents contraction of the muscles that cause lines between the eyebrows. Treatment is usually brief and many patients tolerate it well, but discomfort and side effects can occur.

According to Healthline, Dysport is a safe and effective treatment but some small side effects can occur such as slight pain where the injection was administered, a rash or irritated skin can develop as well as swelling of the eyes or a headache.
