Breast Augmentation Dallas, Texas

Want to change the appearance of your breasts?

Most women who desire breast implants wish to enhance the size of their breasts as they are insecure with their current breast size or feel their breasts are disproportionate to the rest of their figure. Others simply wish to balance out asymmetry or even restore lost volume.

If you’re looking for breast implants in Dallas, TX, Dr Liland will help you select the right implant shape and size to achieve your desired outcome. Dr Liland is a board-certified surgeon.

Breast Augmentation Dallas

Breast implants are one of the two types of breast augmentation surgery (mammoplasty) performed to enhance the size of the breasts.

Implants result in an immediate change in breast size and shape to the extent you desire. Dr Liland will help you to determine the right type, shape, fill, and implementation.

Breast augmentation enhances breast size and shape by placing implants under the breast tissue or chest muscle. It adds fullness, balances asymmetry, and restores volume for a more confident appearance.

Augmentation can be combined with a breast lift or reduction to achieve the patient’s plastic surgery goals.

Why Get A Breast Augmentation?

Typical reasons women wish to undergo Dallas breast augmentation surgery include:

  • To significantly increase their breast size.
  • To restore volume after weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding has decreased breast size.
  • To rebuild one or both breasts, after having suffered various health conditions.
  • To solve any concerns over asymmetry between the breasts. This may require only having one implant or different-sized implants to even out the size of the breasts.
  • To enhance their breast size without undergoing liposuction.

Implants are not suitable or desirable for everyone. If you’d prefer not to use implants, a Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation procedure may fit your needs better.

Is Breast Augmentation Right For You?

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation in Dallas will be those who want to increase their size, have spent time researching the procedure and are making an informed decision.

Other factors include:

  • Being in good physical health
  • Not smoking
  • Being at least 18 years old for saline implants
  • Being at least 22 years old for silicone implants
  • Having realistic expectations

You will not be suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or in poor physical or mental health.

Which Breast Implant Is Best For Me?

During your consultation, Dr. Liland will discuss your implant options and recommend the type of implant most suitable for your needs. All types of breast implants used are FDA-approved. There are two main types of breast implants:

Saline Implants

Saline implants have a silicone shell. But, they are filled with sterile saltwater after they have been inserted into the breasts, so the surgical incision is small, and scarring is reduced. The FDA requires that you are at least 18 years old to be able to get saline implants.

If they rupture the implant deflates and releases the saltwater into the body. This does not present any health risks as the body simply absorbs the fluid, and the silicone shell can be removed and new implants inserted.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are prefilled with silicone gel, a thick fluid that aims to replicate the feel of human fat. The FDA requires that you are at least 22 years old to have this type of breast implant.

These implants tend to feel more natural, but the risk of implant rupture is higher. If the implant ruptures, the breast will not deflate in size as the gel will not be absorbed by the body. This also poses no health risks but may lead to pain or changes in the breast’s shape, in which case the implants can be removed and replaced. Breast scans every few years are advised to check that the implants have not ruptured.

Gummy bear implants are a specific type of silicone implant that is naturally softer, firmer, and holds its shape better than other implants even if the implant ruptures because the gel is thicker than traditional silicone implants. A gummy bear implant is also less likely to rupture due to its strength. Regular screenings should still be done to check that the implant has not ruptured.

What Is Discussed During A Breast Augmentation Consultation?

Implant Size

Some patients wish to only go up by one or two cup sizes so will require small implants, while other patients desire to significantly increase their breast size and will choose much larger breast implants.

The specific size of your breast implants will be discussed with Dr. Liland and he can help recommend which sizes will work best with your body shape.

Implant Shape

The majority of breast augmentation patients in Dallas opt for round implants. However, other patients will be more suited to a teardrop-shaped implant as it can help fill breasts that have sagged.

Dr. Liland will suggest the most appropriate implant shape for your figure.

Projection

The extent to which the breasts project outwards can also vary depending on your preference.

The width and height of the implants are therefore adjustable to ensure the extent of projection is ideal for each patient’s aims and desired figure.

Preparing For Breast Augmentation

Before The Consultation

It is important to research the procedure and your desired size and shape. Having pictures to show at your consultation is important as describing your aims in terms of cup sizes will not be as specific since cup sizes can greatly vary. You should also note down any questions or concerns you wish to discuss with Dr Liland.

Consultation

Dr Liland specializes in breast procedures and will assess your specific needs and figure. He will take any necessary photos. During the consultation, Dr Liland will discuss your various surgical options, the types of implants, and the size and shape of your implants. He will recommend the most suitable options for your needs.

Before The Procedure

Our patients should stop smoking and not drink alcohol a few weeks before the procedure to reduce the risk of complications. Dr Liland may also recommend that you stop taking certain medications, such as aspirin, which could increase the possibility of risks following the procedure.

Breast Augmentation Surgery: What To Expect

The procedure consists of the following stages:

Anesthesia

Breast augmentation can be performed under local anesthesia but general anesthesia is typically administered.

If you’re interested in learning more about anesthesia please visit our page on Sedation Options.

Where Are Breast Implant Incisions Made?

An incision will be made under the breast, under the arm, or around the nipple. The location of the incision will be discussed before the surgery with Dr Liland so that you are clear on the specific details of your procedure and the potential scarring.

Procedure

The breast tissue will be separated from the chest muscle and connective tissue, creating a gap where the breast implant can be inserted. The implant will either be pre-filled (silicone implants) or filled once it is placed in the breast (saline implants).

Closing The Incisions

The incision will then be closed with stitches. These tend to be dissolvable, but if permanent stitches are used, a follow-up appointment to remove them will be made. Bandages will also be applied to cover the breasts initially after surgery.

To achieve a fuller, more symmetrical bust line, time and time again, most patients choose breast augmentation with implants.

How Long Do Breast Implants Last?

Breast implants can significantly and immediately increase your breast size for many years. However, the results are not permanent since implants do not last forever and need to be replaced or removed at some point.

Frequently women need to have their implants replaced about ten years after the surgery by undergoing a Breast Implant Exchange Procedure to have a new set of implants inserted to replace their original set. However, some patients may suffer complications that require them to have surgery sooner than this and will require them to undergo a Breast Implant Revision Procedure. In contrast, others will suffer no complications, and their implants may last longer than ten years. Dr. Liland will explain the specific type of implant and give you a rough idea of how long your implants could last and what the follow-up procedures will be.

How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost?

The main factors that impact the cost of breast implant surgery are the size and type of implant used. Saline implants are cheaper than silicone implants, and round-shaped implants are cheaper than teardrop implants. MRI scans are recommended every few years for silicone and gummy bear implants to determine if the implant has ruptured, which will provide additional future costs compared to saline implants. Our blog ‘How Much Does A Breast Augmentation Cost In Dallas, Texas?‘ provides more in-depth information on the average cost for the procedure.

The reason for breast implant surgery tends to be cosmetic and so is unlikely to be covered by your insurance. However, in some cases, if a patient has suffered from severe illness, such as breast cancer, which has led to a reduction in one or both breasts, your insurance may cover the procedure. You should discuss your specific situation with your health insurance provider.

How Long Is Breast Augmentation Recovery?

After the procedure, you will experience pain and swelling as this is a normal reaction from the body to help heal the area. It is important to give your body time to recover and to have an adult with you for the first couple of days to ensure you are driven home after the surgery and have someone to help care for you. Dr. Liland will discuss and prescribe any pain medication that is recommended after the surgery, and you will need to wear compression garments on your breasts to reduce swelling. You may also have drains or stitches that will need to be removed in another appointment after your surgery. If either of these is necessary, Dr. Liland will discuss this with you and the procedure for their removal.

For around the first two weeks, you should avoid all intense activity, and your blood pressure should not be raised. This will likely mean that you should take a couple of weeks, or potentially longer off work, depending on the nature of your job. What Are The Risks Of Breast Augmentation?

As with any cosmetic procedure, there is a small chance of suffering complications. Any concerns regarding risks or potential illnesses can be discussed with Dr. Liland to ensure you know the exact risks of your specific procedure.

Risks specific to breast augmentation:

  • Infection or bleeding around the implant or incisions
  • High extent of scar tissue can form around the implant (some cases require another surgery to resolve this)
  • Breast pain
  • Alterations in breast or nipple sensation
  • That the implants can change their position, leak, or rupture
  • Being unable to breastfeed
  • Increase in pain, shoulder or neck pain if heavy implants are inserted
  • Mammograms (breast scans) may be more complex so it is essential to inform the person conducting your scan that you have breast implants
  • There is a very small risk that breast implants may increase your likelihood of getting a specific type of breast cancer

General Surgery Risks:

  • Infection
  • Allergic reaction to the anesthetic
  • Blood clots which could lead to DVT (deep vein thrombosis)
