What Is A Neck Lift?

A neck lift reduces sagging, jowls, and a double chin by removing extra skin and tightening neck muscles. This set of procedures provides a firmer, more youthful appearance to the neck and jawline. Procedures can include removing excess skin, removing or altering neck muscles, undergoing Liposuction to remove excess fat and Botox injection to address problems with fullness or “bands.” Neck Lift procedures have a 92% worth-it rating on RealSelf due to their ability to remove sagging skin and rejuvenate a patient’s appearance.

Since a Neck Lift procedure only alters the appearance of the neck many patients choose to combine the procedure with another surgery. Patients whose concerns over the appearance of aging often have concerns over both the face and the neck and so many desire to undergo both a Neck lift and a type of Facelift. This can often help the face to look more consistent and achieve more effective results as both areas are treated and will look proportional to the other. Additionally, other patients have concerns over their brows or eyelids and so desire to combine their Neck Lift procedure with a Brow Lift or Eyelid Surgery. Dr. Liland will help suggest the most suitable procedures for your individual needs during your consultation.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Neck Lift?

Signs of aging across the neck can happen naturally as we age or be sped up by factors including heredity, environmental conditions such as smoking and stress. If you are considering a neck lift, you may be a suitable candidate if you:

  • Have realistic expectations about what the neck lift procedure can do for you
  • Are in good health, emotionally stable, and do not have any pre-existing medical conditions
  • You are not obese, and must have maintained a stable weight for several months
  • Fully understand the neck lift procedure
  • Do not smoke

What Are The Different Types of Neck Lift?

Mini Neck Lift– this procedure is most suitable for candidates who have a small amount of excess skin on their jawline and neck. The procedure can often be performed using local anaesthesia and has a shorter recovery period than more extensive neck lift techniques.

Full Neck Lift– a full neck lift can take up to two hours to perform and is usually performed using general anaesthesia. RealSelf explains that the three issues that tend to be targeted during the procedure includes: fat removal generally using Liposuction, a platysmaplasty and a cervicoplasty to remove excess skin. The platysma muscle on the neck separates as we get older, resulting in two bands on either side of the neck which can be sewed together during a neck lift procedure.

Preparing For The Procedure

Before the Consultation

Before your consultation, we recommend that our Dallas Neck Lift patients research the procedure and are clear on their surgical goals. Bringing in photos of your ideal look and writing down any questions or concerns you wish to discuss in your consultation is also suggested.

Consultation

During the consultation, Dr. David Liland will assess your physical and emotional health, discuss your expectations regarding the neck lift procedure, and the likely outcomes of the procedure. You will also be able to ask questions and discuss the available options and risks involved with the neck lift procedure. Dr. David Liland will show you several pre and post-op photos of the neck lift procedure.

Before the Procedure

It is important that our Dallas Neck Lift patients do not smoke for at least six weeks prior to their procedure to reduce the risk of complications occurring from the surgery. Additionally do not take any medication that contains aspirin, vitamin E, weight loss medication, or Chinese herbs for two weeks before the procedure. A complete drug list will be provided on your pre-op appointment date.

How Is A Neck Lift Performed?

The typical stages of a Neck Lift procedure consist of:

Anesthesia

Before beginning your procedure, we will administer anesthesia and sedation to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed. If you’re interested in learning more about anesthesia please visit our page on Sedation Options.

Incisions

Dr. Liland will make discreet incisions. The exact incision location will depend on the specific type of neck lift procedure being performed.

Tightening

Using the incision areas, Dr. Liland will tighten the underlying muscles and remove excess skin. The procedure can take from 2-4 hours to be performed depending on the technique.

Remove excess skin from around the neck to create a firmer and younger appearance.

More Information

Recovery From a Neck Lift

Immediately following your surgery an adult should drive you home and stay with you for the first couple of days. You will initially have bandages across your neck and sometimes face, and could have drains in place to help any accumulation of excess fluid. An appointment will be made with Dr. Liland to remove these dressings and any drains if they were used.

We recommended that our Dallas Neck Lift patients take a couple of weeks off work to recover from the procedure. Patients should also make sure they keep their head elevated to help reduce swelling and apply a cold compress to help with any bruising. However, the American Society of Plastic Surgery state that patients must not apply ice to their neck as this can affect blood flow and have significant effects on the skin. You may resume all normal activities after four weeks following your neck lift procedure, and the majority of patients will have fully recovered around three to four months after their surgery.

How Much Does a Neck Lift Procedure Cost In Dallas?

Neck lift procedures are very rarely covered by insurance providers since they are not performed for any medical benefit, they are performed to enhance a patient’s appearance and reduce signs of aging.
