What Are Butt Implants?
Buttock implant surgery is the surgical process of placing fat or artificial implants into the buttocks to increase their size or change their shape. Patients can add volume and achieve a contoured figure with Butt Implants and they have a 79% worth-it rating on RealSelf.
Butt Implants are generally made out of silicone as they aim to mimic tissue and fat which naturally occurs in the buttocks. More natural procedures exist to enhance the size or shape of the buttocks including a Brazilian Butt Lift which uses fat grafts taken from other areas of the body or injections of silicone can be used to enhance the size. The main advantage of Butt implants is that they can drastically enhance the buttocks and achieve a patient’s desired shape more easily.
Who Is An Ideal Candidate for Butt Implants?
If you are considering butt implants, you will make a good candidate if you:
- Have realistic expectations about what the buttock implant procedure can do for you.
- Are in good health, emotionally stable, and do not have any pre-existing medical conditions.
- You are not obese and must have maintained a stable weight for several months.
- Are 18-years-old, or older, and fully understand the butt implant procedure.
Preparing For Buttock Implants
Before the Consultation
It is important to research the procedure and consider the ideal size of implants. You will also be able to ask questions and discuss the available options and risks involved with the buttock implants procedure, so should bring in a list of your questions.
Consultation
During the consultation, Dr. Liland will assess your physical and emotional health, discuss your expectations about the buttock implant procedure, and the likely outcomes of the procedure. Dr. Liland will show you several pre and post-op photos of buttock implants.
Before the Procedure
Do not take any medication that contains aspirin, vitamin E, weight loss medication, or Chinese herbs for two weeks prior to the surgery. A complete drug list will be provided on your pre-op appointment date. It is also important our Dallas Butt Implant patients stop smoking six weeks before the procedure.
How Is Butt Implant Surgery Performed?
Anesthesia
General anesthesia is administered by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. If you desire more information on the types of sedation available you can view our Sedation Options page.
Incision
An incision is made either at the back of the upper thigh or down the buttock crease. A pocket is created to insert the implants over the muscle. The buttock implant procedure usually takes two to three hours but can vary depending upon the stretch of the tissue and the makeup of fat deposits under the patient’s skin.
Closing the Incisions
Both buttocks are checked for symmetry before the incisions are stitched closed. Dr. Liland will close the incisions with gentle techniques to minimize scarring.

More Information
Recovery From Butt Implant Surgery
You should arrange for an adult to drive you to and from your surgery. You cannot take a taxi home. You must arrange for an adult to stay with you for 24 hours after the buttock implant procedure. After the surgery, it is essential that you avoid sitting down for up to a few weeks after your butt implant procedure. Sitting down can apply pressure to the butt implant incision areas which can result in injury to the incision site or can cause the healing tissue in this area to be injured. Additionally, the implants themselves may be affected or even have their position altered as a result of sitting down.
For the first few days, we also recommend that our Dallas Butt Implants patients apply a cold compress to decrease bruising and swelling (try frozen peas), and avoid heavy lifting, straining, or bending over, for two weeks. After a couple of weeks sitting may be introduced, depending on your individual recovery period, and a butt lift pillow can be used to help you adjust to sitting. Patients can often resume all normal activities four to six weeks after a buttock implant procedure.
Specific recommendations will be discussed when you arrive for your consultation.
