Breast Reduction Dallas, Texas

Overly large breasts can negatively impact a woman’s physical and mental health, causing poor posture, back and neck pain, and self-confidence issues.

Dr Liland helps patients to combat the problem with breast reduction surgery in Dallas and Fort Worth, TX. We understand how larger breasts can impact your life, so we’re here to listen to your concerns and help you achieve the look and size you’ve always wanted.

What Is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure which removes excess breast tissue, fat and skin to alter the size and shape of the breasts. The procedure helps to resolve health-related issues that large, heavy breasts can cause and improve their aesthetic appearance.

It is commonly performed on patients who are unhappy or self-conscious about the size of their breasts or feel they’re disproportionate to the rest of their figure.

Other women suffer from various health-related issues due to their breast shape and size, such as having chronic back, neck, or shoulder pain, or developing infections and rashes. For some women, large breasts can impair their ability to exercise, and their bra straps can cause extra strain and form grooves in the shoulder.

The breast reduction procedure has a 97% worth it rating on RealSelf since it helps to address medical problems and can enhance the patient’s confidence.

What Are The Benefits Of Breast Reduction Surgery?

Most breast reduction patients report that they regret not having the procedure earlier due to the host of benefits it provided. This is no surprise when you consider the variety of aesthetic and medical results the surgery can achieve.

Medical Benefits:

  • Reduces physical discomfort and pain in the back, shoulders, or neck
  • Helps to prevent rashes, infections and skin irritation
  • Allows patients to exercise more comfortably
  • Improves posture

Aesthetic Benefits:

  • Clothes tend to fit better
  • Breasts are a better proportion to the rest of your figure
  • Increases confidence

Who Is An Ideal Candidate For A Breast Reduction?

Suitable candidates for breast reduction surgery are women with breasts that are disproportionate to the rest of the body. Typically, they’ll have a sagging appearance and a heavy weight, causing discomfort. One breast may even be significantly larger than the other.

Furthermore, ideal candidates will require the removal of breast tissue and excess skin. This is important as it means liposuction of the breasts alone is not a suitable option.

Other factors which may make you a good candidate for the procedure include:

  • Over the age of 18
  • Good physical health
  • Realistic expectations
  • Do not smoke

Types Of Breast Reduction

The Anchor Reduction

An anchor breast reduction is a common choice for most patients. An incision is made around the nipple, which continues in a straight line downwards before turning horizontally across the breast crease. This procedure is suitable for patients who have very large or sagging breasts. Some patients may require their nipples to be removed and then repositioned.

The Circumareolar Reduction

The circumareolar reduction is suitable for women with slightly smaller breasts than those suited for the anchor-type procedure. The incision is smaller as it only goes around the nipple and then down in a straight line to the bottom of the breast (there’s no horizontal incision across the breast crease)

The Vertical Pattern Reduction

In a vertical pattern reduction, an incision is made around the areola. It’s ideal for patients who require less tissue to be removed or only require surgery on one breast to solve asymmetry concerns.

Breast Liposuction

Liposuction is a completely different technique from the other options. A cannula is inserted into the breast and used to remove excess fat. This procedure is only suitable for patients with a high fat ratio in their breasts.

Breast Lift & Reduction Combo

Breast reductions are often combined with a breast lift, specifically an anchor lift, so that the size of the breasts is reduced at the same time as their position being lifted, giving a more balanced and youthful result.

Preparing For A Breast Reduction

Before The Consultation

You should research the procedure and consider what size you would like to go down to. We recommend you write down any questions you wish to discuss at your consultation. You should also speak to your insurance provider to see if you qualify for any coverage of the procedure.

Consultation

During the consultation, Dr Liland will review your medical history, current medications, and allergies before conducting an assessment and listening to your goals. He will then determine which breast reduction method is the most suitable option, and he’ll explain the procedure, recovery, and risks.

Before The Procedure

You should stop smoking around six weeks before your surgery. You may also be told to stop taking painkillers a few days before the surgery. On the day of your surgery, you may need to avoid drinking or eating (as is the case with many surgeries), but Dr. Liland will discuss this with you beforehand.

How Is A Breast Reduction Performed?

Anesthesia

General anesthesia, or in some cases, local anesthesia will be administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. If you’re interested in learning more about anesthesia please visit our page on Sedation Options.

Incisions

Dr. Liland will make incisions around the areola and potentially downwards to the bottom and across the breast. The extent of the incisions will vary depending on the specific type of breast reduction being performed, which will be determined in your consultation.

Breast Reduction

Dr. Liland will then remove the desired amount of fat, breast tissue, and skin to achieve your ideal size. In most cases, the position of the nipple can remain the same, but sometimes they will need to be repositioned (this will be discussed with you in your consultation).

Closing The Incisions

Generally, the incisions are closed with dissolvable stitches. Since the procedure often requires extensive incisions, scars are an inevitable result of the surgery. The extent of the scarring will depend on the technique used, how many incisions were necessary, and the size of these lines.
